The Vision That Started It All
A once-forgotten 1960s gem became the catalyst for Reel View Designs. This full-scale mid-century renovation was brought to life with photo-realistic 3D renders that helped secure finance, sell the vision early, and gain national media coverage — all before the paint had even dried.
It started with a vision.
In 2021, I purchased a mid-century property in Newtown that had remained untouched since the 1960s. The home was in a state of disrepair, with much of the interior needing significant attention. Recognising the potential beneath the wear and tear, I embarked on an extensive renovation journey, aiming to transform the space while preserving its original charm.
The renovation was comprehensive. I restored quirky original features like a trapdoor leading to a secret wine cellar, a built-in floating couch, and a 1960s phone seat. Outside, a restored mid-century fireplace became the centerpiece of a new entertainment area, complemented by a 6m-high palm tree that expressed my love for modernist desert landscapes.
To convey the vision before construction began, I created 3D renders. These visuals were instrumental in securing a higher valuation and finance, as they provided a clear depiction of the planned transformation, instilling confidence in lenders and valuers.
The renders also played a pivotal role in the marketing strategy. We launched the campaign early, using only the renders, and the response was immediate. Buyers were engaged before the photography shoot took place, with some complimenting the renovation before it had even finished.
The project garnered media attention, featuring on the cover of realestate.com.au magazine and across major real estate and renovation platforms.
This wasn’t just a personal renovation — it was the moment I realised how powerful the right visuals can be, leading to the inception of Reel View Designs. Today, we help others bring their projects to life — from concept to sale.
